Best sites to prioritize

The standout is Alice in Wonderland at Playa Kalki on the west coast — a walk-in site with spectacular coral fingers, arches and dense marine life, widely cited as one of Curaçao's best snorkels. Near Westpunt, the blinding turquoise coves of Boka Samí and Grote Knip deliver easy fringing reef straight off the sand, often calm in the morning before the wind picks up.

For something different, head to Curaçao's famous Mushroom Forest on the southeast coast, where a seabed rise left coral 'mushroom' heads standing proud — a surreal, photogenic reef (the stems sit a little deeper, so it suits strong snorkelers or shallow free-divers). And don't skip the Tugboat at Caracasbaai: a small sunken tugboat leaning on the seabed in shallow water, its hull coral-covered and swarming with fish, with parts reachable by snorkel or free-dive from shore.

When to go & conditions

Curaçao sits far south, outside the main hurricane belt, which keeps its conditions remarkably consistent and snorkelable year-round. No season shuts the reef down, though the coastline does get regular trade winds.

The trade wind picks up through the day, so the best, flattest, clearest snorkeling is almost always in the morning — especially at the exposed west-coast sites. Water temperatures run warm throughout the year, typically around 26–29°C.

Practical tips

Just as on Bonaire and its Caribbean neighbours, shore access is the norm here. Rent a car, grab a site map, and hop between the beach entries along the leeward side — the west coast holds most of the headline sites. A morning start gets you the calmest water and best visibility.
