The Adriatic swimming season runs broadly from late spring into early autumn, with the warmest and calmest water in mid-summer — and the busiest, most expensive coast in Europe along with it. June and September are the usual compromise: workable weather, fewer boats, and water that still wants a wetsuit at the edges of the day. Wind decides everything here, so expect the local boat operators to plan by forecast rather than by itinerary: a spell of coastal wind can rule out exposed coasts and cave entries entirely and make the sheltered side of an island the only option.
