The USA appears on this shortlist as its islands: Hawaii's volcanic shore reefs, marine reserves and the Kona manta night snorkel, plus the national-park reef off St. John in the US Virgin Islands. The second of those comes from a catalog destination that also covers the British Virgin Islands, and that is worth being plain about: USVI is a US territory, the BVI is a separate UK territory, and we keep them together as one catalog entry. What unites the two members is that both are easy, well-managed shore and park snorkeling rather than expedition water.
